In the late summer of 2003, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, a 43-year-old woman named Beverly Diane Peoples attended a service at the New Hope Baptist Church. This gathering, located at 18th Street and North Cleveland Avenue, was the last place her family would ever see her. When she departed from the church on September 1st, she gave no indication of any planned absence or that anything was amiss.
