Joseph Richard Kempter, a 63-year-old man from Topeka, Kansas, was last seen on July 5, 2004. At the time of his disappearance, he was living in a nursing facility on Southeast Republican Avenue in Topeka. Kempter, who was described as 6'1" tall and weighing between 175 and 260 pounds with gray hair and brown eyes, had a humpback and walked with his head down. He was last seen wearing a button-down shirt and khaki pants.
Kempter had a history of leaving the facility on foot, and in previous instances, he either returned on his own or was found in locations such as a mission in Denver, Colorado. However, on this occasion, he never returned and has not been heard from since. Despite extensive searches and ongoing investigations, his whereabouts remain unknown, and his case is considered a cold case.
