Duane Stuart Masher, a 55-year-old aeronautics engineer from Coto de Caza, California, was last seen on August 10, 2017. His family reported him missing after failing to contact him. On August 15, 2017, his vehicle, a 2013 Kia Soul, was found abandoned at the Redwoods River Resort in Leggett, California, about 500 miles from his home. Duane had not been a guest at the resort, and there was no sign of him near the area.
The discovery of his car at the resort raised concerns, as it had reportedly been parked there for several days.
Further investigation revealed troubling details. Inside Duane’s home, his son found what appeared to be a smashed cell phone and damaged hard drives that had been placed in the oven and burned, rendering them unusable. These strange findings have led to speculation that Duane may have been fleeing from something or someone, or that he was attempting to hide sensitive information. Despite these clues, no additional evidence has surfaced, and Duane's whereabouts remain unknown.
