James Mummer, a 17-year-old from La Crosse, Wisconsin, was last seen on September 6, 2018. He was reported missing by his family, who believed he might have run away. James stood 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighed 175 pounds, and had blonde hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with skulls on it and dark-colored jeans.
In June 2023, skeletal remains were found in the Mississippi River just south of La Crosse.
After examination, the La Crosse County medical examiner and the Mayo Clinic School of Medicine in Arizona identified the remains as those of James Mummer. The remains showed no signs of injury or trauma, leading authorities to believe that James's disappearance was not due to foul play.
The discovery brought some closure to James's family and friends, although the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain unclear.
