Early Life and Education in Pakistan
Tashfeen Malik was born on July 13, 1986, in Karor Lal Esan, a town in Pakistan's Punjab province. Her family, described as landowners with political influence, relocated to Saudi Arabia during her childhood. Despite this move, Malik returned to Pakistan for higher education, enrolling in Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan in 2007. She pursued a degree in pharmacology, graduating in 2012. During her time in Multan, she also attended the Al-Huda Institute, a women-only religious seminary known for its conservative teachings. Malik enrolled in an 18-month Quranic studies course in April 2013 but left in May 2014, reportedly to get married .
Immigration to the United States and Marriage
Malik met Syed Rizwan Farook, a U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, through an online matrimonial site. Farook traveled to Saudi Arabia in 2013, and the couple married in August 2014 in Riverside, California.
