Graciela Garcia, affectionately known as "Gracie" or "Chela," was a vibrant 49-year-old mother of four residing in Hermiston, Oregon. Born on October 6, 1970, in Mexico, she immigrated to the United States during her childhood and settled in Oregon. Graciela was a well-respected hairstylist who owned and operated Careyes Beauty Salon from her home on Hurlburt Avenue. Her passion for her craft and dedication to her clients made her a beloved figure in the community.
On the evening of November 8, 2019, Graciela planned to bring dinner to her 14-year-old son, who was staying at his father's house. However, she never arrived. Instead, her husband, Cuahotemoc Romero Sanchez, delivered the food, informing the boy that Graciela had gone to bed early. Later that evening, the boy noticed two missed calls and a text message from his mother. Attempts to return the call went straight to voicemail, raising immediate concern among her children.
Alarmed by the uncharacteristic silence, Graciela's children visited her home, finding her vehicle parked outside and personal belongings, including her purse, clothes, and makeup, untouched inside. The only items missing were her ID, passport, and cell phone. Her absence from scheduled appointments at her salon the following day further heightened fears. On November 11, 2019, one of her daughters filed a missing person's report with the Hermiston Police Department.
The Hermiston Police Department launched an investigation, noting the suspicious circumstances surrounding Graciela's disappearance. Her cell phone last pinged near a cell tower in Washington around 12:30 a.m. on November 9, 2019, before it was turned off. There has been no activity on her phone, bank accounts, or social media since. Authorities questioned her husband, who claimed she had left town, leaving behind her vehicle and belongings. He consented to a search of their home, provided DNA samples, and took a polygraph test. ...Read More
