A Quiet Life in Vivian

Dorothy “Dottie” Yates-McCathran, born on October 15, 1979, was a 40-year-old mother of two living in Vivian, Louisiana, with her husband of seven years, Kevan McCathran. She was known for her close ties to her family, particularly her children—a six-year-old daughter and a fourteen-year-old son—who were in the custody of her parents, Martha and Chester Mullins, in Shreveport. Dottie maintained regular contact with her family and was especially attentive to her children's milestones. In the days leading up to her disappearance, she expressed sadness over not being able to attend her daughter's sixth birthday on January 20, 2020, but promised to be present for the celebration planned for January 26.

The Day She Vanished

On January 21, 2020, Dottie was last seen at her residence on Vivian Airport Road. Her husband, Kevan, reported that upon returning home from work that afternoon, he found Dottie missing. Unfinished preparations for dinner were evident, with okra cooking on the stove, and her personal belongings—including her purse, driver's license, and cell phone—left behind. Her vehicle was inoperable at the time, suggesting she did not leave by car.

A Disturbing Phone Call

Approximately at 3:45 p.m. on the day she disappeared, Dottie made a phone call to a friend, during which she expressed distress over recent arguments with Kevan and mentioned a desire to leave. She inquired about a job opportunity at a restaurant that her friend had previously offered. During the call, someone entered the room, prompting Dottie to abruptly change her demeanor and greet the individual with a simple "hi." This was the last known interaction she had.

Search Efforts and Investigation

The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office initiated an investigation into Dottie's disappearance, conducting extensive searches of the five-acre property she shared with her husband. These searches, which included the use of drones and K9 units, yielded some of her personal items—such as jewelry, a hat, and a scarf—but no significant leads. In April 2020, an anonymous tip was left at a local business in Vivian, but authorities have been unable to identify the individual who provided it. ...Read More
