Known affectionately as “Kandie,” Melinda had a history of taking extended trips, sometimes lasting weeks or months, but she always maintained contact with her family. This time was different—no calls, no letters, no trace.
Born on March 12, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York, Melinda was a vibrant woman who loved to dance and write in her journal. She was a mother to three children: Whitney Jackson (now Whitney Williams), Veronica Felder, and Elijah Felder. Despite being separated from her husband for about eight years prior to her disappearance, Melinda remained deeply connected to her children .
Melinda suffered from debilitating seizures, often triggered by stress or excessive heat. These episodes could leave her disoriented, sometimes reverting to a childlike state. Her family feared that she might have experienced a severe seizure, rendering her incapacitated and possibly unidentified in a hospital or care facility .
Initial investigations suggested that Melinda might have moved to 193 Fountain Avenue in Brooklyn, New York, a residence associated with her paternal family. However, when authorities conducted a welfare check, they found that neither Melinda nor her relatives were living there.
