On the morning of January 15, 2019, 63-year-old Michael Wayne Waters departed his home on Broadmoor Lane in St. Charles, Missouri, at approximately 11:00 a.m. Before leaving, he left behind his phone, car keys, and a note bidding farewell to his family. His family, alarmed by these actions, reported him missing the following day. Despite extensive search efforts, no trace of Waters has been found since that day.

Waters had been grappling with depression and had expressed suicidal thoughts in the year leading up to his disappearance.
