Calvin “Johnny” Hunt, a 38-year-old resident of Ten Mile, Tennessee, led a life that, on the surface, seemed typical of many in his small community. Known for his distinctive full-sleeve tattoos—including an anarchy symbol on one forearm and a pentagram on the other—and bones inked on his hands and fingers, Johnny was a recognizable figure. He had a goatee, wore reading glasses, and his left ear was pierced. Standing between 6'0" and 6'1" and weighing around 200 pounds, he was often seen in casual attire: a white polo shirt, tan or navy blue shorts, gray Nike or Adidas shoes, and a black fisherman’s hat.

On May 29, 2018, Johnny embarked on a trip with his girlfriend, Shannon, from his home in Ten Mile to Lilburn, Georgia, intending to visit his mother and brother.
