Introduction
Chad Pallansch, a 49-year-old resident of Fort Collins, Colorado, embarked on an ambitious solo hike through Rocky Mountain National Park on September 27, 2023. Known for his extensive experience as a trail runner and marathoner, Pallansch planned a challenging 28-mile route that would take him across the Continental Divide. Despite his expertise, he went missing, prompting an extensive search and rescue operation that has left both authorities and his loved ones searching for answers.
The Planned Expedition
Setting out from the East Inlet Trailhead near Grand Lake, Pallansch's itinerary was both demanding and adventurous. His route was to traverse established trails and venture into off-trail areas characterized by steep talus slopes.
