In the early hours of March 2, 2020, 31-year-old Susan Nancy Lane was last seen at a 24-hour McDonald's on West Street in Annapolis, Maryland. Around 12:30 a.m., she called 911 to report harassment by an unidentified woman. Responding officers found no evidence of wrongdoing, and the situation was not pursued further. Shortly after, Susan contacted her mother, expressing feelings of being unsafe due to the earlier incident.
Later that morning, Susan's brown BMW sedan was discovered at a Shell gas station on West Street. The car was parked at a pump with the driver's side door ajar, keys in the ignition, and her purse and cell phone on the passenger seat. A male acquaintance found the vehicle and used Susan's phone to call her mother, who then reported her missing to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.
Detectives faced difficulties in tracing Susan's movements due to her transient lifestyle; she was known to live out of her car and frequent areas such as West Street, the Harbor 9 Cinema on Solomons Island Road, and the Giant Food store on Forest Drive. Search efforts included reviewing surveillance footage, distributing flyers, and conducting ground searches with the assistance of search dogs equipped with GPS trackers. Despite these efforts, no substantial leads were found.
Susan had been receiving professional help for mental health issues and was on medication at the time of her disappearance. She had previously expressed concerns to her mother about being targeted and stalked, although no evidence was found to support these claims. Her family described her as a caring individual with a close-knit support network, making her sudden disappearance all the more perplexing. ...Read More
