A Journey to the Summer Jam

In the summer of 1973, two Brooklyn teenagers, 16-year-old Mitchel Weiser and his 15-year-old girlfriend, Bonita "Bonnie" Bickwit, embarked on a journey to attend the Summer Jam at Watkins Glen, New York. The concert, featuring The Allman Brothers Band, The Grateful Dead, and The Band, attracted an estimated 600,000 to 800,000 attendees, making it one of the largest music events in history. Mitchel, a photography assistant from Midwood, Brooklyn, took time off work to meet Bonnie at Camp Wel-Met in Narrowsburg, where she was employed as a mother's helper. Their plan was to hitchhike approximately 75 miles to the concert, carrying with them backpacks, sleeping bags, and a cardboard sign reading "Watkins Glen."

The Disappearance

On July 27, 1973, after spending the night at Camp Wel-Met, Mitchel and Bonnie were last seen hitchhiking along State Route 97 in Narrowsburg, New York.
