Later that day, her red 2002 Ford Taurus was found abandoned near the American Rapids Bridge in Niagara Falls, approximately 10 miles from her home. The discovery of her vehicle so far from her intended destination raised immediate concerns and marked the beginning of a perplexing missing persons case that remains unsolved to this day.

Born on September 19, 1937, in Bethel, Vermont, Patricia Ann Tewksbury Bessel was known as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She married Richard C. Bessel in 1963 and together they raised four children: Marjorie, Timothy, Jamie, and Richard.
