On February 24, 2006, James Lewis Jr., a 56-year-old resident of Sitka, Alaska, embarked on a solo journey aboard his 27-foot sailing vessel, the Tachyon, destined for Elfin Cove. The Tachyon, registered under hull number CTYL3012M77B, was a modest yet seaworthy boat measuring 27 feet in length and 8 feet in width. Despite favorable weather conditions reported on the day of departure, Lewis never arrived at his intended destination, and no trace of him or his vessel has been found since.
James Lewis Jr. was described as a white male with blond or strawberry-colored hair, standing approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing around 225 pounds. At the time of his disappearance, he was known to be an experienced sailor familiar with the challenging waters of Southeast Alaska. Friends and family regarded him as a competent and cautious mariner, making his sudden disappearance all the more perplexing.
The journey from Sitka to Elfin Cove, while not exceedingly long, involves navigating through complex waterways that can be treacherous, especially for solo sailors. Despite this, Lewis was confident in his abilities and had made similar trips in the past. When he failed to arrive in Elfin Cove, concerns quickly escalated, prompting a search operation. However, despite extensive efforts, no evidence of the Tachyon or Lewis was ever discovered.
Following the report of Lewis's disappearance, search and rescue operations were initiated by local authorities, including the U.S. Coast Guard and the Alaska State Troopers. The search encompassed a vast area of the surrounding waters and coastline, utilizing both aerial and marine resources. Despite these efforts, the search yielded no results, and the case eventually went cold. ...Read More
