A Morning Turned Tragic
On the morning of November 3, 2018, 55-year-old Darall Arthur Pascua set out to retrieve a fishing net near Marine Camp, adjacent to the Wailua Golf Course on Kauai’s eastern shore. Known to frequent the Lihue area, Pascua was last seen standing on a reef approximately 50 yards from shore, clad in red, green, and yellow board shorts, without a shirt. A friend accompanying him lost sight of Pascua and, concerned for his safety, promptly called 911.
An Intensive Search Effort
Emergency responders swiftly mobilized a comprehensive search operation. Kapaa firefighters, ocean safety lifeguards on jet skis, and Kauai Fire Department rescue specialists aboard the Air 1 helicopter scoured the area. The U.S. Coast Guard augmented the efforts with assets including a Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Barbers Point, a 45-foot response boat from Station Kauai, and the cutter Joseph Gerczak.
