A Life on the Margins

Michele Lynn Hahn, a 47-year-old woman of Asian descent, stood 5'1" tall and weighed approximately 115 pounds. At the time of her disappearance, she was living in a makeshift raft secured within a drainage runoff near the Liliuokalani Botanical Gardens in Honolulu, Hawaii. This unconventional living situation placed her in a vulnerable position, especially during adverse weather conditions.

The Fateful Day: August 26, 2015

On August 26, 2015, heavy rains led to a storm surge that caused the Nuuanu Stream to swell rapidly. As the waters rose, Michele and a male companion attempted to escape the flooding. During their effort, Michele let go of the man to grab her dog, at which point she was swept away by the swift current. Despite immediate search efforts, she was not found and is presumed to have drowned.

Search and Rescue Efforts

Following her disappearance, the Honolulu Fire Department conducted extensive search operations in the Nuuanu Stream area. The challenging conditions and treacherous terrain hindered the search, and no trace of Michele was recovered. The search efforts were eventually suspended, leaving her family and the community without closure.

Community Response and Ongoing Vigilance

Michele's disappearance resonated deeply within the local community, highlighting the dangers faced by individuals living in precarious conditions. Her case remains open, and authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward. The Honolulu Police Department can be contacted at 808-529-3111 for any leads related to her case....Read More
