The Last Day Anyone Saw Them

On August 20, 1999, in the small city of Nekoosa, Wisconsin, two women and a toddler disappeared without a trace. Dayna Menger , her friend Junelle Marquard , and Dayna’s son, two-year-old Dakota Menger, were dropped off at a babysitter—Dayna’s four-year-old daughter was left as usual—and left without a word on their destination or plans. That would be the last known time any of them were seen.

An Unusual Absence of Alarm

Initially, no immediate alarm was raised. The babysitter, who served as a secondary caregiver for Dayna’s older daughter, was accustomed to Dayna leaving her child for extended periods.
