Debbie LaCaria, a 57-year-old woman originally from Chicago, had settled into a modest life in Jackson, Kentucky. Residing in a home on Highway 3193, also known as Wolverine Road, her living conditions were austere; the residence lacked electricity and running water and had sustained fire damage. Despite these hardships, Debbie maintained a routine, often seen walking her dog around the neighborhood.

On January 10, 2017, Debbie was last seen entering her home after using a neighbor's phone to contact her family. This call marked her final known communication.
