In the late hours of Halloween night, a shroud of mystery fell over a stretch of I-96 in Detroit. It was here that 72-year-old Michael Thomas, a grandfather from Royal Oak, met a tragic and bewildering end. His body was discovered in the eastbound lanes of the interstate near Livernois, the victim of a brutal hit-and-run. The initial investigation by Michigan State Police revealed a horrifying detail: Mr. Thomas had been struck by multiple vehicles, none of which stopped at the scene.
