On the morning of Sunday, November 14, 2021, 32-year-old Peter Golia was last seen at his residence on Kanakanak Road in Dillingham, Alaska. Standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds, Peter was described as having black hair and brown eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a black jacket, a light blue long-sleeve shirt, polyester sweatpants, and gray shoes without laces .
Upon realizing Peter was missing, his family and friends initiated a search throughout the day on Sunday. They reported his disappearance to the Dillingham Police Department around 9 p.m. that evening. The following morning, the Dillingham Snowmobile Association and Search and Rescue volunteers commenced a search operation, focusing on the snowmobile trails behind the airport. The Dillingham Police Department, in collaboration with the Alaska State Troopers, expanded the search efforts. They reached out to local air taxi services, providing them with the coordinates of Peter's last known cell phone location. These pilots assisted by surveying the area from the air, hoping to spot any signs of Peter or clues to his whereabouts. Additionally, authorities contacted GCI, a local telecommunications provider, to obtain data on the last known pings from Peter's cell phone, aiming to narrow down the search area .
The search for Peter Golia saw significant involvement from the local community. On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, ten volunteers participated in an organized ground search coordinated by Dillingham Search and Rescue.
