On June 23, 2019, Carl King, a 55-year-old resident of Bossier City, Louisiana, vanished under mysterious circumstances in Natchez, Mississippi. King was visiting the historic river town for the weekend and had spent the evening in the Natchez Under the Hill district with a companion, Judy Martin. As the night progressed, the couple decided to return to their accommodations at the Hampton Inn. Their route led them to Silver Street, where they encountered a flooded area near the intersection with D.A. Biglane Street. Despite visible barricades warning of the danger, King chose to wade into the water, aiming to find a shortcut back to their hotel. Tragically, he disappeared beneath the surface and was never seen again.
At approximately 12:44 a.m., Judy Martin called 9-1-1 to report that Carl King had gone missing near the boat ramp on Silver Street. She informed the responding officers that King had removed his boots and attempted to cross the flooded street by circumventing the barricades. Martin recounted that King had nearly reached a "Do Not Enter" sign posted on the boat ramp when he suddenly went under the water and did not resurface.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies, including the Natchez Police Department, the Mississippi Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the Adams County Search and Rescue, and the Natchez Fire Department, initiated a search operation that lasted from 1 a.m. until approximately 10 a.m. on the day of King's disappearance. The search was hampered by the high current and poor depth perception in the flooded area. Natchez Fire Chief Ventris Green noted the dangers of the area, stating, "You could be walking where you believe it’s shallow and then fall off an edge." Despite extensive efforts, including assistance from the Cajun Navy 2016, no trace of King was found.
The case remains open, with the Natchez Police Department continuing to monitor the situation. King is presumed deceased due to the circumstances surrounding his disappearance. He is listed in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs) under the ID MP69963. At the time of his disappearance, King was described as a white male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing between 180 and 220 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. ...Read More
