A Lifelong Mariner Disappears Without a Trace
Roland Briggs, a 55-year-old lifelong resident of Ugashik, Alaska, was a seasoned mariner and commercial fisherman known for his deep ties to the Bristol Bay region. On October 13, 2015, he embarked on what should have been a routine fuel delivery trip aboard his 50-foot steel landing craft, the Ketivik. Departing from Egegik with approximately 8,000 gallons of heating fuel, Roland was expected to return to Ugashik the following day. However, he never arrived, and his disappearance has remained a mystery ever since.
The Final Voyage of the Ketivik
Roland's journey began with a stop in Egegik to refuel his vessel. He planned to make a brief stop at Pilot Point before continuing to Ugashik. The Ketivik, described as having a green hull, white cabin, and gray deck, was last seen departing Egegik around 1 p.m. on October 13.
