On December 23, 1988, Julie was last seen by her boss as she left work. She had mentioned plans to do some last-minute Christmas shopping. However, she never returned home and failed to appear at a family Christmas gathering, prompting her family to report her missing on December 25 .
Julie's blue 1988 Chevrolet Sprint was found backed into a parking space in a city lot on Magnolia Avenue, near Beach Street in Daytona Beach. The car was unlocked, and her purse was still inside. Notably, the driver's seat was pushed back, adjusted for someone taller than Julie, suggesting someone else had driven the vehicle .
