A Tranquil Sunday Turns Tragic
On November 19, 2017, the serene coastal waters near Half Moon Bay, California, became the backdrop for a maritime mystery. A 17-foot vessel was found spinning uncontrollably off Martin's Beach, approximately eight miles south of Pillar Point Harbor. The discovery of the unmanned boat set off alarms and initiated a search that would uncover a tragedy and leave lingering questions.

The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted around 1 p.m. by harbor personnel who spotted the boat adrift and circling without any occupants. Upon arrival, responders found the body of 74-year-old Dung Duc Nguyen floating near the vessel. Nguyen, a resident of Fremont, was one of the two individuals believed to have been aboard the boat.
