Introduction

In the vast expanse of Alaska's Denali National Park and Preserve, a routine hunting expedition turned tragic on August 9, 2023. Pilot Jason Tucker, 45, from Wasilla, and passenger Nicolas Blace, 44, from Chugiak, embarked on a journey that would end in an unrecoverable loss. Their Piper PA-18 Super Cub aircraft crashed into a remote ravine, leading to a series of challenges that have left their bodies unrecovered to this day.

The Fateful Flight

The expedition began with Tucker operating a chartered flight for Willow Creek Aviation, tasked with transporting two hunters to a sheep hunting area near the Dillinger River, just west of the preserve. Days prior, Tucker and the hunters had scouted the area in a Cessna 206, returning to Big Lake after surveying the hunting grounds. On the morning of August 9, they flew back to Donkey Creek to drop off supplies. Tucker then returned to Big Lake to retrieve the PA-18 Super Cub, intending to shuttle each hunter to the remote site.
