On February 9, 2024, a day that began with the promise of a routine fishing excursion ended in unforeseen tragedy. Jose Cruz Ledesma, a 60-year-old resident of Tampa, Florida, embarked on a 28-foot vessel with two friends, departing from the Maximo Marina boat ramp in St. Petersburg. Their destination was the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 35 miles west of Anna Maria Island.
