On June 27, 1996, 23-year-old Shaquita Yolanda Bell vanished without a trace after leaving her grandmother's home on East Raymond Avenue in Alexandria, Virginia. She was last seen with her estranged boyfriend, Michael Eric Dickerson, who was driving a gray 1987 Cadillac Fleetwood with tinted windows. Bell had called home around 2:00 p.m. to say she would be returning shortly, but she never arrived and has not been heard from since.
Bell's relationship with Dickerson was marred by violence and control. A month prior to her disappearance, she reported to police that Dickerson had beaten her, leading to his arrest on charges of malicious wounding. She subsequently moved in with her grandmother in Alexandria. Three weeks later, Bell reported that Dickerson had threatened her and held a loaded 9-millimeter gun to her head, resulting in another arrest for unlawful possession of a firearm.
After Bell's disappearance, her purse was found in the vehicle of Jonathan "Jody" Shields, a friend of Dickerson. Shields informed investigators that Dickerson had confessed to killing Bell in Washington, D.C., and had asked for help in disposing of her body. According to Shields, they transported the body to a wooded area alongside Old Fort Road in Fort Washington, Maryland, where Dickerson buried it.
In an effort to gather more evidence, Shields agreed to wear a recording device during a jail visit with Dickerson, hoping to capture a confession. However, on June 6, 1999, the day before the scheduled visit, Shields was murdered. His death remains unsolved, adding another layer of tragedy and complexity to the case. ...Read More
