A Lifelong Oceanside Resident and Devoted Family Man

Loren James Ruden was born on September 30, 1960, in Oceanside, California, where he spent his entire life. The son of Alton Ruden, a former city engineer, and Lorna Ruden, Loren was the third of five siblings. He graduated from Oceanside High School in 1978 and built a life rooted deeply in his community. In 1985, he married Susan, and together they raised three children: Maggie, Sarah, and Andy. Loren left his job as a Honda mechanic to become a stay-at-home dad, dedicating himself to his family's well-being. He was known for his love of fishing, organizing charter trips, and playing softball on the same team for over two decades. His commitment to his family and community was evident in every aspect of his life. 

The Fateful Day: September 9, 2013

On a sunny Monday morning, Loren set out from Oceanside Marina around 11:30 a.m. on his 21-foot Striper fishing boat, aptly named "The Lucky Dog."
