Beneath a picnic table, 35-year-old Martha Toms was found severely beaten but still clinging to life. A Family Plagued by Tragedy
The murder of Martha Toms was not an isolated incident of misfortune for her family. In a cruel twist of fate, her sister, Veronica Abouchuk, also met a violent end years later. Veronica was reported missing in 2018, and her remains were discovered months afterward. The man charged with Veronica's murder was also implicated in the death of another Alaska Native woman, highlighting a disturbing pattern of violence against indigenous women in the region.
