A Promising Life Interrupted
In the early hours of April 27, 2014, the vibrant life of 21-year-old Cindy Bahena was tragically cut short. A resident of Chicago's West Side, Cindy was known for her warm personality and aspirations for a brighter future. That fateful night, she was a backseat passenger in a vehicle traveling eastbound on the 3500 block of West Fullerton Avenue in the Logan Square neighborhood. Unbeknownst to her, this routine drive would be her last.
The Fatal Encounter
At approximately 12:25 a.m., as Cindy's vehicle proceeded along Fullerton Avenue, a group of males standing on a nearby sidewalk shouted gang slogans at the car. Without warning, at least one individual from the group opened fire. Cindy, seated in the back, was struck by the gunfire. The driver, identified by authorities as a known gang member, was believed to be the intended target.
