On the afternoon of October 22, 2019, the tranquility of Washington, D.C.'s 4400 block of Ponds Street, Northeast, was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 3:56 PM, officers from the Sixth District responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Juwaun Robert Smith unconscious inside a vehicle, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention and transport to a nearby hospital, Juwaun succumbed to his injuries, leaving a void in his community and family.
The Crime Scene
The 4400 block of Ponds Street, NE, primarily a residential area, became the focal point of a homicide investigation that day. The circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear, and law enforcement has not publicly disclosed any information regarding potential suspects or motives.
