On the evening of June 16, 2002, the tranquil neighborhood of Ocean Beach in San Diego was shattered by a heinous crime. At approximately 9:15 p.m., 48-year-old Gregg Adamec was taking a walk along the 5000 block of Voltaire Street when an unknown assailant approached him. A nearby witness reported hearing a gunshot and, upon looking across the street, saw Adamec lying on the sidewalk with the suspect standing over him. The perpetrator, described as a white male with dark hair wearing dark clothing, fled the scene on a bicycle, heading eastbound on Voltaire Street and then southbound on Bacon Street.
