A Promising Life Cut Short

On the evening of November 18, 2009, the vibrant community of West Oakland was shaken by the tragic death of 19-year-old Elray Bufont Jones Jr. A dedicated student at San Francisco State University, Elray was known for his commitment to education and his close-knit family ties. His untimely passing left a void in the hearts of those who knew him and cast a shadow over the neighborhood he called home.

The Fateful Night

Shortly after 9 p.m., near the intersection of 14th and Peralta streets, Elray was fatally shot. Despite his injuries, he managed to stagger into a nearby liquor store, where he ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
