Discovery of the Crime Scene
On February 7, 2004, the tranquility of Washington, D.C.'s I Street SE was shattered by a grim discovery. At 1216 I Street, SE, authorities found Audrey Medley suffering from apparent stab wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, her injuries proved fatal. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) promptly initiated an investigation, but the case remains unsolved to this day.
Investigation Efforts
Following the discovery, the MPD's Violent Crimes Branch took charge of the investigation. Detective Brett Smith was assigned as the lead investigator, urging anyone with information to come forward. The department offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
