A Family Outing Turns Tragic
On June 12, 1965, the Bordenkircher family arrived at their cabin on Beaver Street in Kings Beach, California, for a weekend retreat. The family consisted of parents and their four children, including two-year-old James Dwyer Bordenkircher, affectionately known as Jamie. As his parents unpacked, Jamie played on a wooden swing in the front yard. Moments later, he vanished without a trace.
The Immediate Search Efforts
The disappearance prompted an extensive search involving over 1,000 people, including law enforcement agencies, volunteers, and the FBI. Bloodhounds were deployed, helicopters scanned the area, and divers explored the nearby Lake Tahoe.
