The disappearance of 85-year-old Francisco Pangelinan in May 2023 sent ripples of concern throughout the Kapolei community and highlighted the vulnerabilities faced by elderly individuals, especially those with cognitive impairments. Despite extensive search efforts, his whereabouts remain unknown, underscoring the pressing need for improved safety measures for Hawaiʻi's aging population.

The Day of Disappearance

On May 15, 2023, Francisco Pangelinan, a resident of Ewa Beach and a U.S. Army veteran, embarked on a routine trip to the Home Depot in Kapolei to purchase lightbulbs. Surveillance footage captured him around 3:00 p.m., crossing Kapolei Parkway from Home Depot toward the Costco parking lot. He then proceeded to cross Kalaeloa Boulevard in the direction of the Star Advertiser building. After this point, no further sightings were reported.
