A Promising Life Cut Short
On June 18, 2017, the life of 17-year-old Tiara Viramontes was tragically cut short in Chicago's East Garfield Park neighborhood. Tiara, a student at the Marine Leadership Academy and an avid basketball and softball player, was known for her vibrant spirit and dedication to her community. Her untimely death not only devastated her family and friends but also left a void in the community she was poised to impact positively.
The Fateful Morning
In the early hours of that Sunday, at approximately 4:48 a.m., Tiara and a 30-year-old man were behind a building in the 3500 block of West Huron Street. Without warning, an unknown assailant opened fire, striking both individuals. Tiara sustained a gunshot wound to the back of her head, while the man was shot in the upper leg.
