Early Life and Troubled Beginnings
Peter Britton Tobin was born on August 27, 1946, in Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland. As the youngest of seven children, Tobin's early years were marked by instability, spending much of his childhood in various institutions. His adult life was equally tumultuous, with three marriages ending in allegations of abuse. Despite a history of criminal behavior, including convictions for burglary and forgery, it wasn't until later that the full extent of his violent tendencies came to light.
The 1993 Portsmouth Assaults
In 1993, Tobin was convicted for the brutal assault of two 14-year-old girls in Havant, Hampshire. He had drugged, raped, and attempted to kill them by turning on a gas supply, leaving them for dead. Fortunately, both girls survived, and Tobin was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
