The Assault Near Sunshine Cove

On January 10, 2024, a violent altercation occurred near Sunshine Cove, approximately 33 miles along Glacier Highway in Juneau, Alaska. A 72-year-old property owner confronted an individual trespassing on his land, leading to a struggle over the property owner's handgun. During the confrontation, the elderly man sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the head. The assailant fled the scene in a small silver truck before authorities arrived. The victim received immediate medical attention and was treated at the scene.

Identification of the Suspect

The Juneau Police Department (JPD) swiftly identified the suspect as 54-year-old Corey B. Coleman, a local resident. Described as a white male, standing 5 feet 11 inches tall with a slender build, light brown hair, and green eyes, Coleman was also noted to be missing part of his left ring finger, possibly due to an injury sustained during the assault.
