A Routine Voyage Turns Tragic
On January 30, 2007, 24-year-old Sean Cone embarked on what was expected to be a routine fishing trip aboard the Lady Luck, a 52-foot steel-hulled vessel. Accompanied by 21-year-old crewman Daniel Miller, the pair set out from Portland, Maine, heading toward Newburyport, Massachusetts. Loaded with 1,000 gallons of fuel and eight tons of ice, the vessel was well-prepared for the journey. However, tragedy struck approximately 30 miles southeast of Portland when the Lady Luck sank rapidly in waters over 500 feet deep.
The Search and Investigation
Following the disappearance, the U.S. Coast Guard launched an extensive search operation. Despite their efforts, the vessel was eventually located at a depth of 500 feet, but no signs of Cone or Miller were found.
