On January 4, 1992, 27-year-old Monte Howard Bolton joined family for a holiday sail out to Anacapa Island, part of California’s Channel Islands National Park. What began as a short excursion to admire a dramatic coastline ended in a search that recovered one brother and left Monte unaccounted for—an absence that has persisted for decades.

The Brothers’ Plan to Explore Sea Caves
