Anthony Joseph Garcia was born on June 7, 1973, in Los Angeles, California, to Fred, a postal service worker, and Estella, a nurse originally from Mexico. He had two younger siblings. Garcia pursued a career in medicine, earning his degree from the University of Utah in 1999. His early medical career, however, was marred by unprofessional behavior. During his residency at Bassett-St. Elizabeth Family Medicine in New York, he was forced to resign after six months due to inappropriate conduct. Troubled Tenure at Creighton University

In July 2000, Garcia began a pathology residency at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
