A Night of Unprecedented Violence in South Shore
On the night of March 30, 2017, Chicago's South Shore neighborhood was engulfed in a wave of violence that left the community reeling. Within a span of 12 hours, seven individuals lost their lives in three separate shootings, all occurring within an eight-block radius. This surge in violence culminated around 11 p.m., marking one of the most tragic episodes in the area's recent history.
The Fatal Shooting of Dominique Scott and Cornell Patrick
Among the victims were 23-year-old Dominique Victoria Scott and 27-year-old Cornell M. Patrick. The two were traveling southbound on South Shore Drive in a gray van when a black Jeep approached them near 70th Street. Without warning, an assailant from the Jeep opened fire, striking Scott in the side of her head as she sat in the front passenger seat and hitting Patrick in his side while he was seated in the back. The van subsequently crashed into a pole at 71st Street. Both Scott and Patrick were pronounced dead at the scene.
