A Festive Gathering Turns Fatal

In the early hours of November 27, 2016, a house party in northeast Denver's 5500 block of North Carson Street took a tragic turn. The celebration, filled with laughter and camaraderie, was abruptly shattered when a dispute escalated between two attendees: 54-year-old Rufino Perez and 32-year-old Salvador Vargas. The altercation culminated in Vargas fatally shooting Perez, leaving the community in shock and mourning.
