The Early Morning Tragedy
On June 29, 2014, at approximately 3:45 a.m., the tranquility of Dallas's 5400 block of Preakness Lane was shattered. Veronica Dejon Sauels, a 33-year-old resident, was fatally shot in the face with a pistol. The alleged assailant, Ranji Alix Charles, was identified and later apprehended by law enforcement.
A String of Violent Events
The murder of Sauels was not an isolated incident that night. Earlier, Charles had reportedly shot and killed Corey Shannon, an acquaintance, during an argument. Following Shannon's death, Charles is said to have committed two armed robberies in the 300 block of E. Ledbetter Road, targeting individuals at gunpoint.
