In the early hours of July 28, 2016, the Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago was the scene of a devastating incident that left two people dead and two others injured. A block party had been organized in the 800-block of West 50th Place to commemorate the life of a man who had fallen victim to gang violence in 2012. According to reports, tensions escalated over a seemingly trivial matter—a parking spot. Witnesses recounted that 25-year-old Denzel Childs became involved in an argument when he refused to allow a group of girls to reserve a parking space for a friend.
