In the early hours of June 25, 2014, a violent home invasion at the Avistar at Chase Hill apartment complex near the University of Texas at San Antonio resulted in a deadly shootout, leaving two young men dead and a community in shock. The incident began around 2:30 a.m. when two armed intruders forcibly entered an apartment, demanding property from the occupants. The residents, caught off guard, faced a terrifying ordeal that would soon escalate into a fatal confrontation.
The Desperate Call for Help
As the intruders pressed their demands, one of the apartment's residents, Robert Maddera Payne, sought refuge in a locked bedroom. In his desperation, Payne reached out to his friend, 19-year-old Zachary Manciu, pleading for assistance.
