On January 6, 1999, Sonya Nicole Speights, a 29-year-old African American woman, was tragically killed in her home in Port St. John, Florida. The incident occurred while she was working on a jigsaw puzzle at the dining room table. The perpetrators were Curtis Fairchild Jones, aged 12, and his sister Catherine Jones, aged 13, who were the children of Sonya's boyfriend.
