On January 6, 1999, Sonya Nicole Speights, a 29-year-old African American woman, was tragically killed in her home in Port St. John, Florida. The incident occurred while she was working on a jigsaw puzzle at the dining room table. The perpetrators were Curtis Fairchild Jones, aged 12, and his sister Catherine Jones, aged 13, who were the children of Sonya's boyfriend. The siblings used their father's 9mm handgun to shoot Sonya, leading to her immediate death.
