A Promising Life Cut Short
On August 1, 2017, the Jacksonville community was shaken by the tragic death of 19-year-old Ra'Kwon Leon I'man Backey. Found with multiple gunshot wounds in the driveway of his home on Shelby Creek Road South, just west of Herlong Recreational Airport, Ra'Kwon's life was abruptly and violently ended. Despite immediate investigations, the circumstances surrounding his death remained a mystery for years.
Remembering Ra'Kwon
Family and friends remember Ra'Kwon as a hardworking and compassionate young man. Employed at a local shoe store for several years, he was dedicated to his work and cherished spending time with his family. His cousin, Kimberly George, described him as "very loving, very compassionate and passionate about whatever he was doing."
